Mississauga outlasts North York, 7-5

The game between the Mississauga Chargers and the North York Rangers was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Mississauga emerged with a 7-5 win.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Steve Mariani's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

The Chargers got the win on the strength of a great game by Stefano Alonzi, who had two goals and one assist. Alonzi scored the first of his two goals at 16:12 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Mississauga. Kevin Bray picked up the assist. Alonzi's next tally made the score 5-3 Mississauga with 19:20 left in the third period. Scott Docherty assisted on the tally.

Mississauga forced Rangers' goaltenders to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots and forcing 34 saves. Gianluca Baggetta made 31 stops and Jeremie Lintner made three. The Chargers found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Mississauga averages 3.3 goals per game. The Chargers got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Mississauga additionally got points from Ryan Markovic, who also had one goal and one assist, Docherty, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, Mariani, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Daniel DeSousa, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Mississauga also got a goal from Francesco Luca as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mississauga were Daniel Pereira, Zack Ribau, Alexandros Acosta, Shane Beaulieu, Thomas Lattavo, and Brandon Yeamans, who each chipped in one.

North York managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Rangers ended up below its season average of 8.0 penalty minutes per game. North York's offense rang up 34 shots on Mississauga's net.

The Rangers were helped by Nick Zanette, who had one goal. Zanette scored 12:43 into the third period to make the score 5-5. Jacob DeMaeyer picked up the assist. North York also got points from Michael Morgan, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Ryan Takamatsu, who also registered one goal and one assist. North York also had goals scored by Ted Hunt and Ryan Hunt, who each put in one. In addition, North York received assists from Grayden Gottschalk, who had two and Dean Rayner, Walker Hincenbergs, and Jake Harris, who contributed one each.

Andrew Cipollone recorded 29 saves for the Chargers. Mississauga incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. North York registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
