Burlington rips Buffalo, 5-2

The Burlington Cougars had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over the Buffalo Jr. Sabres.

Buffalo's power play was ineffective against Burlington's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Cougars were often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game Burlington had been spending in the box. The Cougars' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Buffalo power plays.

Burlington was helped by Samuel Gagnon, who registered one goal and one assist. Gagnon scored 6:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Burlington. Dante Felicetti picked up the assist. Burlington also had goals scored by Mike Faliero, who had two and Brady Cranwell and Daniel Volpe, who each put in one. In addition, Burlington received assists from Matt Holmes, who had two and Zac Herrmann, David Thomson, Ben Morris, David Kiss, Tyler Riter, and Jack Jeffers, who contributed one each.

The Jr. Sabres' offense rang up 33 shots on the Cougars' net.

Buffalo was led by Christopher Berger, who racked up one goal. Berger scored 7:34 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Burlington. Tim Nicksic assisted on the tally. Buffalo also got a goal from Nicholas Bondra as well. Other players who recorded assists for Buffalo were Dylan Seitz and Christian Zimmerman, who each chipped in one.

Burlington's Andrew Lee stopped 31 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Cougars registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities. For Burlington, Jordan Peacock and Volpe were ejected from the contest. Tucker Weppner took the loss and made nine saves before being replaced by Brian Kowalski who made 14 saves. The Jr. Sabres ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For Buffalo, Aaron Reinig was ejected from the game.
