Toronto Jr. Canadiens beats Stouffville 7-6 after comeback scare

The Stouffville Spirit tried to dig themselves out of a five-goal hole, but the Toronto Jr. Canadiens Junior Canadiens held on for a 7-6 victory.

A goal by Jake Joffe put Toronto Jr. Canadiens up 6-1 in the second period, but Stouffville pulled to within one on Spencer Roberts's tally 19:19 into the third period.

Justin Maiolino was all over the ice for the Junior Canadiens, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Maiolino scored 17:10 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Toronto Jr. Canadiens. Nicholas Jarzabek assisted on the tally.

The Spirit were unable to stop Toronto Jr. Canadiens from sending pucks towards the net, and the Junior Canadiens eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Toronto Jr. Canadiens' goal total was higher than its season average. The Junior Canadiens average 4.3 goals per game. Toronto Jr. Canadiens struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 24 penalty minutes for four opposing power plays.

Toronto Jr. Canadiens also got points from Andrew Pucci, who also had one goal and one assist, Anthony Trujillo, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Joffe, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Toronto Jr. Canadiens included Daniel Tsiampas, Lucas Colalillo, and Eric Eremita, who each put in one. In addition, Toronto Jr. Canadiens received assists from Andrew Mullen, Gianfranco Cassaro, Adam DeLuca, and Daniel Barnes, who contributed one each.

Stouffville forced the Junior Canadiens goalie Daniel Lopapa to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. The Spirit surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Stouffville has scored at the pace of 3.2 goals per game during the current campaign. The Spirit could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Stouffville was helped by James Mense-Dietrich, who grabbed one goal. Mense-Dietrich scored 15:08 into the third period to make the score 7-5 Toronto Jr. Canadiens. Connor Evans picked up the assist. Stouffville additionally got points from Cameron Lintner, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Stouffville also had goals scored by Jack Varga, Jonathan Yaremko, and Christopher Brill-Morgan, who scored one goal each. More assists for Stouffville came via Zachary Roberts, Chad Burrows, Nathan Hudgin, and Otis Goldman, who each chipped in one.

Lopapa recorded 26 saves for Toronto Jr. Canadiens. The Junior Canadiens registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Kyle Pescador made 25 saves for the Spirit on 32 shots.
