Carleton Place rips Pembroke, 5-2

The Carleton Place Canadians had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over the Pembroke Lumber Kings.

The win gave Carleton Place a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Canadians put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Pembroke to score on any of its four power plays.

Carleton Place was helped by Ryker Killins, who racked up one goal and one assist. Killins scored on the power play 15:36 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Carleton Place. The Canadians had gotten the advantage when the Lumber Kings' Cameron Hughes was sent off for slashing. Andy Sturtz assisted on the tally. Carleton Place also got points from Sturtz, who also registered one goal and one assist and Andrew Dodson, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Carleton Place also had goals scored by Vinny Post and Jordan Larson, who scored one goal each. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Stephen Baylis, who had two and Tyson Stewart, Connor Merkley, Craig Pefley, Owen Stewart, and Maxime StPierre, who contributed one each.

Pembroke was led by Ryan Casselman, who finished with one goal. Casselman scored 16:12 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Carleton Place. Anthony Nellis picked up the assist. Owen McDade also scored for Pembroke. Other players who recorded assists for Pembroke were Brett du Puy, Felix Chamberland, and Hudson Michaelis, who each chipped in one.

Guillaume Therien recorded 21 saves for Carleton Place. The Canadians incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Lumber Kings' starting goalie, Jordan Piccolino, made 19 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Sean Green, who stopped three shots. Pembroke incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
