Elmira rips LaSalle, 7-2

The LaSalle Vipers had trouble finding ways to stop the Elmira Sugar Kings, which beat Vipers, 7-2.

The win gave Elmira a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Sugar Kings were sparked by Alex Mutton, who had one goal and one assist. Mutton scored short handed 9:28 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Elmira. Elmira was on a disadvantage when Eric Palazzolo went off the ice for tripping. Sam Harris assisted on the tally.

The Sugar Kings stifled LaSalle's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Vipers were unable to stop Elmira from sending pucks towards the net, and the Sugar Kings eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Elmira got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Elmira additionally got points from Brodie Whitehead, who also registered one goal and one assist, Adam Brubacher, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Rob Kohli, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Ethan Skinner, who also had one goal and one assist, and Steven Jakiela, who also registered one goal and one assist. Brendan Schneider also scored for Elmira. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Zac Coulter, who had two and Mitch Klie, Klayton Hoelscher, and Connor Hall, who each chipped in one.

LaSalle put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Sugar Kings to score on any of their five power plays. The Vipers' offense rang up 39 shots on Elmira's net.

Jonathan Reinhart recorded 37 saves for the Sugar Kings. Elmira incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. LaSalle's Eli Billing stopped 25 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Vipers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For LaSalle, Nick Gauvin was ejected from the game.
