Stratford wins tough contest against Elmira, 4-2

The Stratford Cullitons and the Elmira Sugar Kings were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Stratford made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Jared Nash secured the win for the Cullitons with a goal in the second period.

With the win, Stratford evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

Elmira's power play was ineffective against the Cullitons' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Stratford was led by Shane O Brien, who racked up one goal. O Brien scored on the power play 12:52 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Stratford. The Cullitons had gotten the advantage when the Sugar Kings' Brodie Whitehead was sent off for slashing. Mitch Brooks assisted on the tally.

Stratford excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Elmira was unable to stop the Cullitons from sending pucks towards the net, and Stratford eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Stratford also got points from Hayden Broomhead, who also had one goal and one assist. Joe Leahy also scored for Stratford. In addition, Stratford received assists from Trevor Sauder, who had one and Justin Graham, who had two.

The Sugar Kings forced the Cullitons goalie Nicholas Caldwell to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Elmira was helped by Brendan Schneider, who tallied one goal. Schneider scored 10:42 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Stratford. Mitch Klie picked up the assist. Elmira additionally got points from Klie, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Elmira came via Adam Brubacher and Connor Hall, who each chipped in one.

Caldwell rejected 34 shots on goal for Stratford. The Cullitons totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 1-for-8 on the power play. Stratford ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Patrick McKelvie was ejected from the game. Jonathan Reinhart made 29 saves for the Sugar Kings on 32 shots. Elmira ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major. For the Sugar Kings, Marselis Subban and Zac Coulter were ejected from the contest.
