Churchill leads Fresno Monsters to shutout victory over Valencia FlyersGateway IC Fri, Mar 20, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Nathan Churchill was superb between the pipes for Fresno Monsters, as he did not allow a goal in a 7-0 victory over Valencia Flyers. With the win, Fresno Monsters avoided elimination to make the series score 1-1 in the best of three series. Fresno Monsters got the win on the strength of a great game by Mike Nolan, who had one goal and three assists. Nolan scored 3:55 into the second period to make the score 5-0 Fresno Monsters. Mark Shroyer assisted on the tally. Valencia Flyers' power play was ineffective against Fresno Monsters' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:00 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Fresno Monsters forced Valencia Flyers' netminders to work without much rest, finishing with 47 shots and forcing 40 saves. Silvan Delb made 12 stops and Ole Nilsen made 28. Fresno Monsters stifled Valencia Flyers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Fresno Monsters also got points from Jacob Haynes, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Shroyer, who also had one goal and one assist. Fresno Monsters also had goals scored by Carter Dahl, who had two and Parker Olson and Michael Freeman, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Fresno Monsters were Evan Ingram, who had one and Mitchell Dolman, who had two. Valencia Flyers forced Fresno Monsters goalie Churchill to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Valencia Flyers' power play unit failed to produce, and was held to zero goals on nine chances. Nathan Churchill made 36 saves for Fresno Monsters on 36 shots. Fresno Monsters totaled 53 minutes in penalty time with 14 minors and three majors and went 1-for-9 on the power play. Fresno Monsters ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ingram was ejected from the game. Valencia Flyers ended with 59 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors and three majors. Team's Ray Wilson and Nicholas Wilton were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
