Sarnia survives LaSalle comeback, wins 5-3

The LaSalle Vipers tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Sarnia Legionnaires held on for a 5-3 victory.

A goal by Davis Boyer put Sarnia up 5-1 in the third period, but LaSalle pulled to within two on Nathan Veres's tally 12:53 into the third period.

With the win, the Legionnaires evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

Penalties took their toll on Sarnia, as its penalty kill unit let in three power play goals. The defensemen of the Legionnaires were also effective in the Vipers' zone, and came away with two goals.

Sarnia was led by Kyler Keating, who racked up one goal and one assist. Keating scored 8:26 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Sarnia. Riley Babkirk picked up the assist. Sarnia additionally got points from Jay Clarke, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Sarnia included Bobby King and Tyler Prong, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Cody Trowell, Hayden Allen, Jake O`Donnell, and Ryan Trottier, who contributed one each.

The Legionnaires were unable to stop LaSalle from sending pucks towards the net, and the Vipers eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

LaSalle also had goals scored by Chris Pignanelli and Brendan Harrogate, who scored one goal each. In addition, LaSalle received assists from Daniel Beaudoin, who had one and Korey Morgan and Nathan Savage, who contributed two each.

Sarnia's Andrew Masters stopped 37 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Legionnaires incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Paolo Battisti took the loss and made 24 saves before being replaced by Eli Billing who made zero saves. LaSalle incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
