Welland survives St. Catharines comeback, wins 3-1

The Welland Jr. Canadians came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the St. Catharines Falcons, but did just enough to escape with a 3-1 victory.
Welland led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Jr. Canadians' Tyler Stranges scored at 12:28 in the first period to put Welland up 3-0.
With the win, the Jr. Canadians evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.
St. Catharines was stymied by Welland's netminder Chris Janzen, who stopped 39 shots during the victory. The solid play of Janzen will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.71.
The Falcons' offense rang up 40 shots on Welland's net.
St. Catharines was led by Tyler Hildebrant, who scored the team's only goal. Hildebrant scored on the power play 15:40 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Welland. The Falcons had gotten the advantage when the Jr. Canadians' Stortz was sent off for slashing. Manny Manns assisted on the tally.
Welland incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Ben Csiernik took the loss and made six saves before being replaced by Jonathan D Ilario who made 13 saves. St. Catharines incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
