Wingham survives Walkerton comeback, wins 3-2

The Walkerton Hawks tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Wingham Ironmen would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

Wingham made the score 3-1 on a goal by Alex Kuntz at 10:00 in the third period, and Walkerton got as close as 3-2 when Brett Coulson scored 19:15 into the third period.

With the win, the Ironmen avoided elimination to make the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series.

Kuntz had a great game for Wingham, netting two goals.

The Ironmen excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Wingham also got a goal from Holdyn Lansink as well. In addition, Wingham received assists from Brett Brophy, Justin Jacklin, and Ryan McNeil, who contributed one each.

The Hawks kept Wingham's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ben Nelson made 38 saves on 40 shots.

Lauchlin Elder also scored for Walkerton. More assists for Walkerton came via Jay Thomson, Calvin Penney, and Ryan Hamelin, who each chipped in one.

The Ironmen incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Erik Angeli recorded 26 saves for Walkerton. The Hawks incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
