Call stymies Decatur Blaze, Soo Firehawks wins 5-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Cody Call helped Soo Firehawks defeat Decatur Blaze, 5-1.

After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, Decatur Blaze faces elimination next time out.

Soo Firehawks was sparked by Mario Taranto, who registered one goal. Taranto scored 10:32 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Soo Firehawks.

Soo Firehawks forced Decatur Blaze's goaltenders to work between the pipes, totaling 50 shots and forcing 45 saves. Matthew Hatcher made 45 stops and Paul Stomper made zero. Soo Firehawks stifled Decatur Blaze's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Soo Firehawks got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Soo Firehawks also got points from Matthew MacLaren, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Noah Anderson, who also had one goal and one assist, and Zach Eitrem, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Christian Wilkins also scored for Soo Firehawks. In addition, Soo Firehawks received assists from Matthew Majic, Anthony Laaksonen, and James Goudreau, who each chipped in one.

Decatur Blaze kept Soo Firehawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Call made 38 saves on 39 shots.

Decatur Blaze was led by Micah Young, who scored the team's only goal. Young scored 12 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-1 Soo Firehawks. John Urmetz assisted on the tally.

Soo Firehawks incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Decatur Blaze incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
