Springfield Express takes care of Tulsa Jr. Oilers early, wins 9-1

A four-goal first period deficit cost Tulsa Jr. Oilers, which could not recover and fell to Springfield Express, 9-1.

After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, Tulsa Jr. Oilers faces elimination next time out.

Derek Smith was all over the ice for Springfield Express, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Smith scored 6:06 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Springfield Express. Collin Young provided the assist.

Springfield Express put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Tulsa Jr. Oilers to score on any of its four power plays. Springfield Express forced Tulsa Jr. Oilers goalie Teke Murphy to work between the pipes, taking 74 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Springfield Express additionally got points from Eric Hewitt, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Diego Bartlett, who also had one goal and one assist, Vito DeVito, who also registered one goal and one assist, Josh Cook, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Seth Ensor, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Linus Dahlberg, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Alexander Lobachev also scored for Springfield Express. More assists for Springfield Express came via Cameron Mikkelsen, who had one, David Higgs, who had two, and Tobias Sjolund, who had four.

Bobby Dugan rejected 19 shots on goal for Springfield Express. Springfield Express totaled 41 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and three majors and went 3-for-8 on the power play. Tulsa Jr. Oilers' Murphy stopped 65 shots out of the 74 that he faced. Tulsa Jr. Oilers ended with 34 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors and two majors.
