GAME RECAP

Alliston uses early goal to top Schomberg, 3-1

New Tecumseth Rec Centre    Sun, Mar 08, 2015

The Alliston Hornets beat the Schomberg Cougars, 3-1, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

A goal 18:51 into the first period by Nic Archibald proved to be the game winner, and powered Alliston to the victory. The Hornets had gotten the advantage when Schomberg's Brandon Savoy was sent off for roughing. Mark ODonnell picked up the assist.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, the Cougars face elimination next time out.

Archibald was all over the ice for Alliston, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win.

The Hornets pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 26 penalty minutes.

Alliston's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Schomberg power plays. Schomberg was unable to stop the Hornets from sending pucks towards the net, and Alliston eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Others who scored for Alliston included Steve Griggs and Tanner Dockerty, who scored one goal each.

Tyler Brindle made 22 saves for the Hornets on 23 shots. Alliston registered three goals on 13 power play opportunities. Taylor Ewart recorded 28 saves for the Cougars. Schomberg incurred 42 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. The Cougars ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Derek Neilly was ejected from the game.
