Alliston rides Brindle to victory over Schomberg, 5-1

Tyler Brindle had a standout game with 27 saves, and the Alliston Hornets beat the Schomberg Cougars 5-1.

The win gave Alliston a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Hornets' penalty kill excelled, as Alliston gave up one goal despite allowing nine power plays.

The Hornets were led by Tanner Dockerty, who had one goal and one assist. Dockerty scored 18:53 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Alliston. Mark ODonnell provided the assist.

Alliston forced Schomberg goalie Taylor Ewart to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. The Hornets were held back by their power play unit, which tallied one goal on 11 chances.

Others who scored for Alliston included Steve Griggs, Jacob Tuck, Nick Arcan, and Nic Archibald, who each put in one. More assists for Alliston came via Jamie Bennett and Matt Taylor, who each chipped in two.

The Cougars were led by JP Crescenzi, who scored the team's only goal. Crescenzi scored on the power play 9:03 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Schomberg had gotten the advantage when Alliston's Bennett was sent off for tripping. Connor Whiteside picked up the assist.

The Hornets incurred 68 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Ewart recorded 29 saves for the Cougars. Schomberg incurred 58 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. For the Cougars, Tanner Smith was ejected from the game.
