The Walkerton Hawks' Brett Coulson scored 8:11 into overtime to beat the Wingham Ironmen, 4-3 (OT). The win gave Walkerton a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. The Hawks came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Walkerton fell behind 3-1 after a goal by Wingham's Alex Kuntz at 17:26 in the first period. The Hawks knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Coulson at 7:44 in the third period. Coulson had two goals to lead Walkerton to victory. The Hawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Walkerton also had goals scored by Josh Deyell and Tyler Cunningham, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Walkerton were Mitch Borden, Calvin Penney, and Reid Simmons, who contributed one each. The Ironmen kept Walkerton's goalie busy throughout the game, and Erik Angeli made 35 saves on 38 shots. Wingham was helped by Ryan McNeil, who grabbed one goal. McNeil scored 7:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wingham. Kuntz assisted on the tally. Wingham additionally got points from Kuntz, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Wingham also got a goal from Bailey Poels as well. In addition, Wingham received assists from Greg Scott and Jeremy Ross, who each chipped in one. The Hawks incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Ben Nelson recorded 23 saves for the Ironmen. Wingham incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
