Clarington survives Uxbridge comeback, wins 3-2

The Uxbridge Bruins tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Clarington Eagles held on for a 3-2 victory.

A goal by Jake Carter put Clarington up 3-1 in the third period, but Uxbridge pulled to within one on Carter Vahey's tally 14:58 into the third period.

The win gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

In a losing effort, the Bruins were sparked by Vahey, who registered two goals. Vahey scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:34 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Clarington. Uxbridge earned a power play opportunity when Brodie Myers was put in the box for interference. Jarett Smith provided the assist. Vahey's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Clarington with 5:02 left in the third period. The Bruins had gotten the advantage when Clarington's Ben Pitchforth was sent off for interference. Marco Mastrangelo picked up the assist.

Uxbridge was unable to stop the Eagles from sending pucks towards the net, and Clarington eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Clarington also got points from Jarod Hollister, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Clarington received assists from Brad Down, who had two and Mackenzie Morissette, Brent Hambly, and Cody Kean, who each chipped in one.

The Bruins kept the Eagles' goalie busy throughout the game, and Connor Visca made 30 saves on 32 shots. The defensemen of Uxbridge were also effective in Clarington's zone, and came away with two goals.

More assists for Uxbridge came via Daryl Thomson, who had one.

The Eagles incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Brandon Francey recorded 30 saves for the Bruins. Uxbridge incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
