The Waterloo Siskins' Danny Hanlon scored 15:22 into overtime to beat the Guelph Hurricanes, 6-5 (OT). The win gave Waterloo a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. The Siskins forced Guelph goalie Jason DaSilva to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots. Waterloo additionally got points from Chase Campbell, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Gary Mantz also scored for Waterloo. More assists for Waterloo came via Matt Martin, Eric Cimino, Evan Kearns, Matt Romund, and Evgeny Kiselev, who each chipped in one and Nick Hirst and Christian Mroczkowski, who contributed two each. Waterloo was unable to stop the Hurricanes from sending pucks towards the net, and Guelph eventually piled up 44 shots on goal. The Hurricanes were led by Patrick Kudla, who racked up one goal and two assists. Kudla scored 8:46 into the third period to make the score 4-4. Lawrence Pagnan picked up the assist. Guelph also had goals scored by Mackenzie Flewelling, Stefano Pezzetta, Peyton Backus, and Brody Milne, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Guelph were Jake Wyse, Sebastian Stangherlin, Matt Nightingale, Brooker Muir, and Ryan Migliaccio, who each chipped in one. Kiselev rejected 39 shots on goal for the Siskins. Waterloo incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. DaSilva recorded 43 saves for Guelph. The Hurricanes incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. |
