Stratford outlasts Cambridge, 3-2

The game between the Stratford Cullitons and the Cambridge Winter Hawks was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Stratford emerged with a 3-2 win.

The Cullitons gained the winning advantage on a goal by Trevor Sauder 5:26 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The win gave Stratford a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Shane O Brien had two goals to lead the Cullitons to victory. O Brien found the back of the net on the power play 13:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stratford and again while on the power play 10:13 into the second to make the score 2-1 Stratford.

Stratford pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 18 penalty minutes.

More assists for Stratford came via Deven Kropf and Justin Graham, who each chipped in one and Jake Pleon and Mitch Brooks, who contributed two each.

Cambridge was helped by Mitch Atkins, who tallied one goal. Atkins scored on the power play 15:00 into the second period to make the score 2-2. The Winter Hawks had taken the advantage when the Cullitons' Tristan Hohl got sent off for slashing. Kyle Liu picked up the assist. Zack Magwood also scored for Cambridge. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Alex Hulford and Jake Moggy, who each chipped in one.

Stratford's Nicholas Caldwell stopped 20 shots out of the 22 that he faced. The Cullitons registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. Lucas Machalski rejected 26 shots on goal for Cambridge. The Winter Hawks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
