Thorold downs St. Catharines in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Thorold Blackhawks pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the St. Catharines Falcons on a clutch goal by Nick Sacco.

With the win, Thorold avoided elimination to make the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series.

St. Catharines could not complete its climb out of a three-goal hole. The Blackhawks made it 4-1 on a goal by Francois Plamondon at 5:57 in the second period. The Falcons pulled to within 4-3 on a goal by Jake Evans at 18:23 in the third period.

Thorold was sparked by Sacco, who had one goal and one assist. Sacco scored 4:58 into overtime to make the score 5-4 Thorold.

Thorold also got points from Plamondon, who also registered two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Thorold included Dawson Ethier and Francesco Gigliotti, who scored one goal each. More assists for Thorold came via Justin Whitwell and Anthony Postiglione, who contributed one each and David Dagostino and Mitchell Mendonca, who each chipped in two.

St. Catharines' offense rang up 43 shots on the Blackhawks' net.

The Falcons were helped by Ryan Doucette, who racked up two goals. Doucette scored the first of his two goals at 36 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Thorold. Connor Timmins assisted on the tally. Doucette's next tally made the score 4-2 Thorold with 2:17 left in the third period. St. Catharines had taken the advantage when Thorold's Scott Dorion got sent off for slashing. Tyler Hildebrant provided the assist. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Tyler Morrison, who had three and Brock Ackerman, Broderick Kelly, and Tyler Jackson, who contributed one each.

The Blackhawks' Josh Astorino stopped 39 shots out of the 43 that he faced. Thorold incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Falcons took out Jonathan D Ilario after he had made two saves and installed Ben Csiernik in goal, where he finished with 20 saves and the otl. St. Catharines incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
