Whitby shrugs off penalties, upends Dundas, 5-1

Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Whitby Dunlops were able to defeat the Dundas Real McCoys, 5-1.

With the win, Whitby avoided elimination to make the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series.

The Dunlops were led by Bob McQuat, who tallied one goal and one assist. McQuat scored on the power play 18:51 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Whitby. A slashing penalty on Beni Berisha had put Whitby on the power play. Kyle Musselman provided the assist.

The Dunlops put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Dundas to score on any of its eight power plays. Whitby's offense rang up 45 shots on the Real McCoys' net.

Whitby additionally got points from Shane Terry, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Whitby also had goals scored by Peter MacKellar, Patrick Jobb, and Adam Van Dam, who scored one goal each. In addition, Whitby received assists from Matthew Baxter, who had two and Scott Freeman, Kyle Ventura, Brett McConnachie, and Chris Purves, who contributed one each.

Dundas' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in three goals to the Dunlops' power play unit.

The Real McCoys were led by Cam Watson, who scored the team's only goal. Watson scored 13:59 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Whitby. Brett Smith picked up the assist.

Jason Guy made 24 saves for Whitby on 25 shots. The Dunlops ended with 53 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major. For Whitby, Matt Gray was ejected from the game. Mike Mole recorded 40 saves for Dundas. The Real McCoys ended with 36 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and two majors. Team's Jordan Foreman and Dan Lapointe were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
