Dundas survives Whitby comeback, wins 3-2

The Whitby Dunlops tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Dundas Real McCoys held on for a 3-2 victory.

Dundas took a 3-0 lead during the second period, only to have Whitby storm back on a Adam Van Dam goal 5:38 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, the Dunlops face elimination next time out.

Brad Bonello had two goals to lead the Real McCoys to victory. Bonello scored at 18:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Dundas and again while on the power play 10:44 into the second to make the score 2-0 Dundas.

Dundas stifled Whitby's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Darryl Smith also scored for Dundas. In addition, Dundas received assists from Shawn Snider, who had two and Duncan Dalmao and Cam Watson, who each chipped in one.

The Real McCoys were unable to stop the Dunlops from sending pucks towards the net, and Whitby eventually piled up 49 shots on goal. The Dunlops was shut out on the power play, going scoring scoreless on nine chances with a man advantage.

Whitby also got a goal from Matthew Baxter as well. More assists for Whitby came via Scott Freeman, Jared Docking, Brett McConnachie, and Kyle Musselman, who contributed one each.

Mike Mole recorded 47 saves for Dundas. The Real McCoys incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Jason Guy rejected 24 shots on goal for Whitby. The Dunlops incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
