The M1 West Virginia University Mountaineers survived a determined comeback attempt by the M1 Mercyhurst University Lakers on the way to a 4-2 win.

A goal by Thomas Brooks put M1 West Virginia University up 4-1 in the third period, but M1 Mercyhurst University pulled to within two on Patrick Dolan's tally 17:38 into the third period.

James Murray had one goal and two assists to lead the Mountaineers. Murray scored on the power play 18:03 into the second period to make the score 2-1 M1 West Virginia University. A roughing penalty on Matthew Bour had put M1 West Virginia University on the power play. Joseph Baker picked up the assist.

By firing 27 shots on goal, the Mountaineers exceeded the 2.5 shots they average per game this year.

M1 West Virginia University also had goals scored by Zachary LaDuke and Gerard Clayton, who each put in one. More assists for M1 West Virginia University came via Eric Pawlick, who had one and Trey Bracy, who had two.

With 23 shots on target during the contest, the Lakers exceeded the 2.2 shots they average per game this year.

M1 Mercyhurst University was helped by Joseph Zinner, who had one goal. Zinner scored 15:31 into the second period to make the score 1-0 M1 Mercyhurst University. Jesse Valasek provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for M1 Mercyhurst University were Kevin Valasek and Matthew Bilski, who contributed one each.

Eric Schaetzle made 21 saves for M1 West Virginia University on 23 shots. The Mountaineers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Bryan Danczak recorded 23 saves for the Lakers. M1 Mercyhurst University incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
