Grimsby survives Hagersville comeback, wins 4-3

The Grimsby Peach Kings survived a determined comeback attempt by the Hagersville Hawks on the way to a 4-3 win.

A goal by Curtis Conrad put Grimsby up 3-0 in the second period, but Hagersville pulled to within one on Jacob Solomon's tally 4:58 into the third period.

After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, the Hawks face elimination next time out.

Brennan Smith had a great game for the Peach Kings, netting two goals. Smith found the back of the net on the power play 7:54 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Grimsby and again while 18:15 into the third to make the score 4-3 Grimsby.

Grimsby excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Peach Kings forced Hagersville goalie Curtis Dortenzio to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Grimsby also got points from Garnet McComber, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Grimsby were Steven Polich and Nicholas Purves, who contributed one each and Matthew Jambrosich and Griffin Roubos, who each chipped in two.

The Hawks' offense rang up 34 shots on Grimsby's net.

Others who scored for Hagersville included Bailey Fletcher and Brayden Hill, who scored one goal each. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Matt Rimac, who had two and Travis Bell and Jonathan Pace, who contributed one each.

Jeremy Currie rejected 31 shots on goal for the Peach Kings. Grimsby incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Hagersville's Dortenzio stopped 30 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Hawks ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Hagersville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dan Pugliese was ejected from the game.
