Hagersville wins tough contest against Grimsby, 4-3

The Hagersville Hawks gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Grimsby Peach Kings.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Brayden Hill secured the win for Hagersville with a goal in the third period.

The win moved the Hawks to down 2-1 in the best of seven series.

Grimsby's power play was ineffective against Hagersville's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Hawks were led by Hill, who racked up one goal. Hill scored short handed 19:29 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Hagersville. A hooking call on Zach Maciel put Hagersville on the penalty kill.

The Peach Kings were unable to stop the Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Hagersville eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Hagersville also had goals scored by Jacob Bianchi, Cole Martin, and Jacob Solomon, who scored one goal each. More assists for Hagersville came via Jonathan Pace, Bailey Fletcher, Mitch Green, Dan Pugliese, and Dan Mederios, who each chipped in one.

Grimsby kept the Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Curtis Dortenzio made 32 saves on 35 shots.

The Peach Kings were helped by Brennan Smith, who grabbed one goal. Smith scored 11:16 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Garnet McComber assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Grimsby included Christian Gaetano and Jeromy Hopkins, who each put in one. In addition, Grimsby received assists from Matthew Jambrosich, who had two and Dillon Cipretti and Griffin Roubos, who contributed one each.

Hagersville incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Grimsby's Marcus Hlywka stopped 29 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Peach Kings incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
