Taylor Wood gave the New Hamburg Firebirds a 6-5 (OT) victory over the Norwich Merchants when he scored 6:44 into the extra period.

The win by New Hamburg broke a deadlock and gave the Firebirds a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Norwich was unable to stop New Hamburg from sending pucks towards the net, and the Firebirds eventually piled up 48 shots on goal.

New Hamburg also got points from Jay Fried, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Tyler Randerson, who also registered one goal and one assist, Kory Nowak, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Carter Tracey, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Brodie Muckler also scored for New Hamburg. More assists for New Hamburg came via David Jennings, Andrew Boer, Garrett Pollock, and Jaden Goetz, who contributed one each.

The Merchants forced New Hamburg goalie Ryan Purcell to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. Norwich got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed four goals during the game.

The Merchants were led by Riley Monture, who had three goals and one assist. Norwich additionally got points from Harlen Vanwynsberghe, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Norwich also got a goal from Derek Slaght as well. In addition, Norwich received assists from Zack Morrison, who had one and Drake Morrell, who had three.

Purcell recorded 37 saves for the Firebirds. New Hamburg incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Norwich's Patrick Maziarz stopped 42 shots out of the 48 that he faced. The Merchants incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For Norwich, Darcey Butler was ejected from the game.
