Clarington outlasts Lakefield, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Clarington Eagles escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Lakefield Chiefs.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Brodie Myers's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

The win by Clarington clinched the best of seven series at 4-0.

Brad Down had a great game for the Eagles, netting two goals. Down's tallies came at 9:51 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Lakefield and on the power play 2:37 into the third to make the score 3-2 Lakefield.

Clarington's penalty kill excelled, as the Eagles gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Clarington stifled Lakefield's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Clarington also had goals scored by Jake Carter and Braden Gray, who each put in one. In addition, Clarington received assists from Chris Ludwinski, Dylan Howorko, Brent Hambly, Jarod Hollister, and Cody Kean, who contributed one each.

The Eagles were unable to stop the Chiefs from sending pucks towards the net, and Lakefield eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

The Chiefs were led by Sweeting Bryce, who finished with one goal and two assists. Bryce scored 4:05 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Lakefield. Eric Oosting assisted on the tally. Lakefield additionally got points from Oosting, who also registered one goal and one assist. Travis Brault also scored for Lakefield.

Connor Visca rejected 29 shots on goal for Clarington. The Eagles incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. Zach Wainman made 21 saves for Lakefield on 26 shots. The Chiefs incurred 34 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors.
