Clarington downs Lakefield in overtime, 3-2 (OT)Lakefield-Smith CC Sat, Feb 21, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Clarington Eagles pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Lakefield Chiefs on a clutch goal by Jarod Hollister. After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Lakefield faces elimination next time out. Clarington came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Eagles trailed 2-0 after a goal by the Chiefs' Nick Julian at 7:55 in the second period. Clarington knotted things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Cody Kean at 13:02 in the third period. Lakefield's power play was ineffective against the Eagles' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Clarington put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Chiefs to score on any of their seven power plays. Lakefield's defense shut down the Eagles' forwards for much of the game, and Clarington got off only 14 shots during the contest. Darby Medd also scored for Clarington. In addition, Clarington received assists from Brad Down, who had two and Mitchell Marchbank and Jake Carter, who contributed one each. Lakefield also got a goal from Connor Blair as well. Other players who recorded assists for Lakefield were William Sullivan, Jesse Gregory, Jayd Killingbeck, and Keenan Runnalls, who each chipped in one. The Eagles' Connor Visca stopped 17 shots out of the 19 that he faced. Clarington incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Zach Wainman rejected 11 shots on goal for the Chiefs. Lakefield incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
