Thakker lifts Melbourne Ice over Brisbane Goannas, 6-1

Melbourne Ice relied on the scoring touch of Anjali Thakker, who netted two goals, to beat Brisbane Goannas, 6-1.

Thakker scored at 11:04 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Melbourne Ice and again while 15:45 into the second to make the score 4-1 Melbourne Ice.

Melbourne Ice's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Brisbane Goannas power plays. Melbourne Ice's offense was clicking better than usual and put 43 shots on goal during the game, better than the 3.9 shots per game it averages.

Melbourne Ice also got points from Christine Bestland, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Melbourne Ice also had goals scored by Nicole Tritter, Julie Mundy, and Lindsay Audia, who each put in one. In addition, Melbourne Ice received assists from Alivia Del Basso, who had two, Shona Green, who had three, and Georgia Carson, Lucy Parrington, Rylie Padjen, and Christine Cockerell, who each chipped in one.

Brisbane Goannas put 20 shots on net during the contest, more than the 1.8 it averages per game.

Brisbane Goannas was led by Tracy Hocutt, who scored the team's only goal. Hocutt scored 2:23 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Kelly Costa assisted on the tally.

Melbourne Ice's Michelle Coonan stopped 19 shots out of the 20 that she faced. Melbourne Ice incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Keesha Atkins made 37 saves for Brisbane Goannas on 43 shots. Brisbane Goannas incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
