Penetang hangs on, beats Caledon 3-1

The Penetang Kings took the lead against the Caledon Golden Hawks in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-1 victory.

Brandon Frandsen provided Penetang with the game-winning tally when he scored 10:37 into the first period. Matt Meher assisted on the tally.

The win gave the Kings a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Penetang's Adam Redgate was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 29 saves and let only one puck past him. Despite the solid performance, Redgate will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

The Kings were led by Jessey Moreau, who racked up one goal. Moreau scored 2:24 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Penetang. Meher picked up the assist.

Penetang kept Caledon's goalie busy throughout the game, and James Cyfko made 39 saves on 42 shots.

Penetang also got points from Frandsen, who also had one goal and one assist and Meher, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Penetang were Craig Robinson, who had one and Nate Archer, who had two.

The Golden Hawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Caledon was led by Steven Klomp, who scored the team's only goal. Klomp scored 6:51 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Penetang. Nicholas McNutt provided the assist.

The Kings incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Golden Hawks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
