Schomberg downs Huntsville, 6-3

Connor Whiteside tallied one point to lead the Schomberg Cougars to a 6-3 victory over the Huntsville Otters.

The win by Schomberg clinched the best of seven series at 4-2.

In the losing effort, Huntsville was led by Jake McIntyre, who finished with one goal and two assists. McIntyre scored on the power play 4:19 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Schomberg. The Otters had gotten the advantage when the Cougars' Michael Longato was sent off for fighting. Jesse Houlton assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 2:34 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Schomberg's offense rang up 38 shots on Huntsville's net. The Cougars was effective with a man advantage, and put in three goals while on the power play.

Schomberg additionally got points from John Gage, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Schomberg included JP Crescenzi, Blake Culley, and Tanner Smith, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Schomberg were Brandon Yorke, who had three, Ian Reid and Brandon Savoy, who contributed one each, and Tristan Joseph and Justin Formenton, who each chipped in two.

The Otters forced Schomberg goalie Taylor Ewart to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Huntsville also got points from Houlton, who also registered one goal and two assists. Huntsville also got a goal from Jay Dix as well. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Riley Vogels and Tanner Hamilton, who contributed one each.

Ewart rejected 35 shots on goal for the Cougars. Schomberg ended with 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors. For the Cougars, Longato and Mitchell Robinson were ejected from the contest. Hunter Ferguson made 32 saves for Huntsville on 38 shots. The Otters totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 3-for-6 on the power play. Huntsville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tyler Brown was ejected from the game.
