Huntsville falls to Schomberg in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Schomberg Cougars' Joseph Mete scored 4:51 into overtime to beat the Huntsville Otters, 4-3 (OT).

The win gave Schomberg a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Cougars' penalty kill excelled, as Schomberg gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

The Cougars forced Huntsville goalie Connor Christanson to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. Schomberg's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

The Cougars were led by Tristan Joseph, who grabbed two goals. Joseph scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 18:42 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Schomberg had taken the advantage when the Otters' Elliott Lade got sent off for tripping. Blake Culley picked up the assist. Joseph's next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 Schomberg with 16:41 left in the second period. The Cougars earned a power play opportunity when Corey Miller was put in the box for hooking. John Gage assisted on the tally. Schomberg additionally got points from Culley, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Schomberg came via Derek Neilly, Brandon Yorke, and Connor Whiteside, who each chipped in one.

Huntsville's offense rang up 39 shots on Schomberg's net.

The Otters were led by Tanner Hamilton, who had two goals. Hamilton scored the first of his two goals at 12:03 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Schomberg. Chris Goodfellow provided the assist. Hamilton's next tally made the score 3-3 with 10:06 left in the third period. Huntsville had gained a power play chance when Ryley Egerton was whistled for spearing. Jamie Halnan picked up the assist. Huntsville also got a goal from Sam King as well. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Jay Dix and Jesse Houlton, who contributed one each.

Taylor Ewart rejected 36 shots on goal for the Cougars. Schomberg incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Connor Christanson made 35 saves for the Otters on 39 shots. Huntsville incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
