Aylmer holds on for 4-2 win against Lambeth

The Lambeth Lancers tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Aylmer Spitfires held on for a 4-2 victory.

Aylmer took a 4-1 lead during the third period, only to have Lambeth storm back on a Andrew Fletcher goal 13:13 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, the Lancers face elimination next time out.

Dylan Salter was all over the ice for the Spitfires, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Salter scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Aylmer. Aylmer had gained a power play chance when Kale Corbeth was whistled for hooking. Clint Walker picked up the assist. Salter's next tally on the power play made the score 3-1 Aylmer with 19:13 left in the third period. Cody Underhill assisted on the tally.

Aylmer also got points from Underhill, who also registered one goal and one assist and Andrew Goldberg, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Aylmer received assists from Brett Dzyngel, who had one and Josh Houston, who had two.

Lambeth kept the Spitfires' goalie busy throughout the game, and Lucas Easterbrook made 33 saves on 35 shots. The Lancers had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on nine chances.

Luke Jackson also scored for Lambeth. Other players who recorded assists for Lambeth were Ryan Pennington, Nick North, Jay Ritchie, and Mike Frizzell, who each chipped in one.

Aylmer incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. JP Trudell made 25 saves for Lambeth on 29 shots. The Lancers incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Lambeth ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cleo Gubbels was ejected from the game.
