Dunnville wins tough contest against Niagara, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Niagara Riverhawks.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Steven Czepek's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Niagara faces elimination next time out.

Damien Lalonde was all over the ice for Dunnville, as he tallied two goals in the win. Lalonde scored at 3:32 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Niagara and again while on the power play 14:02 into the second to make the score 4-2 Dunnville.

The Jr. Mudcats' penalty kill excelled, as Dunnville gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

The Jr. Mudcats' offense rang up 38 shots on the Riverhawks' net.

Dunnville additionally got points from Mack Steele, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Jeff May, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Dunnville were Ryan Hannigan, Davis Hart, Luke Rowe, and Dan Arrowsmith, who each chipped in one.

Dunnville was unable to stop Niagara from sending pucks towards the net, and the Riverhawks eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Niagara was led by Kyle Robertson, who had two goals. Robertson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:43 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Niagara. The Riverhawks had gained a power play chance when Evan Huckalo was whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct. Dante Zawadzki assisted on the tally. Robertson's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 Niagara with 13:22 left in the first period. Niagara also got a goal from Brandon McLean as well. In addition, Niagara received assists from Alex Cipriano, who had one.

Brennan Head made 28 saves for the Jr. Mudcats on 31 shots. Dunnville incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Jr. Mudcats ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Travis Sheldrake was ejected from the game. Scott Charanduk rejected 33 shots on goal for Niagara. The Riverhawks incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
