Mount Forest survives Kincardine comeback, wins 7-6

The Mount Forest Patriots survived a determined comeback attempt by the Kincardine Bulldogs on the way to a 7-6 win.

A goal by Trevor Hughson put Mount Forest up 7-5 in the third period, but Kincardine pulled to within one on Sam Feagan's tally 15:12 into the third period.

With the win, the Patriots evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown.

Hughson was all over the ice for Mount Forest, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Hughson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 12:24 into the second period to make the score 4-4. The Patriots had gained a power play chance when Gerrit Satosek was whistled for hooking. Luke Richardson picked up the assist. Hughson's next tally on the power play made the score 7-5 Mount Forest with 10:27 left in the third period. Mount Forest earned a power play opportunity when Mike Smailes was put in the box for holding. Cody Wright assisted on the tally.

The Patriots kept the Bulldogs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Mitch Campbell made 28 saves on 35 shots.

Mount Forest additionally got points from Doug Costanzo, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Richardson, who also had two goals and three assists to lead the team in points, and Mitch Betts, who also registered one goal and one assist. Mount Forest also got a goal from Doug Ardis as well. In addition, Mount Forest received assists from Brady Becker, who had one.

Mount Forest was unable to stop Kincardine from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bulldogs eventually piled up 47 shots on goal.

Kincardine was helped by Patrick Wiejak, who finished with two goals. Wiejak scored the first of his two goals at 18:11 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Brycin Morrison picked up the assist. Wiejak's next tally made the score 5-5 with 1:26 left in the second period. The Bulldogs had gotten the advantage when the Patriots' Tyler McCracken was sent off for cross checking. Smailes assisted on the tally. Kincardine also got points from Dalton Hnatko, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Shawn Moore, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Kincardine came via Alex Labrosse, who had one and Matthew Mah, who had two.

John Nixon recorded 41 saves for Mount Forest. The Patriots incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Kincardine incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For the Bulldogs, Luke Inglis was ejected from the game.
