Penney leads Walkerton over Mitchell, 7-3

The Walkerton Hawks were firing on all cylinders against the Mitchell Hawks, and when the final buzzer sounded Hawks emerged with a 7-3 win.

After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, Mitchell faces elimination next time out.

Calvin Penney had one goal and three assists to lead Walkerton. Penney scored 11:58 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Walkerton. Lauchlin Elder assisted on the tally.

The Hawks forced the Hawks' goalies to work all game long, finishing with 60 shots and forcing 53 saves. Graeme Lauersen made 31 stops and Clay Carter made 22.

Walkerton also got points from Jay Thomson, who also registered one goal and one assist, Ryan Hamelin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Elder, who also racked up two goals and one assist, Brett Coulson, who also had one goal and one assist, and Brendan Welsh, who also registered one goal and two assists. In addition, Walkerton received assists from Nathan Kramer, Carter Franks, and Josh Deyell, who contributed one each.

Mitchell forced Walkerton goalie Erik Angeli to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots.

The Hawks were led by Kyle Spence, who registered two goals. Spence scored the first of his two goals at 14:00 into the second period to make the score 6-1 Walkerton. Wil Marcy picked up the assist. Spence's next tally made the score 6-2 Walkerton with 3:20 left in the second period. Jordan MacKenzie provided the assist. Mitchell also got a goal from Matt Van DeWalle as well. More assists for Mitchell came via McKenzie Carter, Joe McCarthy, and Bayley Boyes, who each chipped in one.

Erik Angeli made 41 saves for the Hawks on 44 shots. Walkerton incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Mitchell incurred 42 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
