Paris wins tough contest against Woodstock, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Paris Mounties escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Woodstock Navy Vets.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Brady Wheelans at 13:13 of the third period.

With the win, Paris avoided elimination to make the series score 3-3 in the best of seven series.

Clayton Chalmers had two goals and one assist to lead the Mounties. Chalmers scored the first of his two goals at 6:45 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Wheelans picked up the assist. Chalmers' next tally made the score 2-1 Paris with 5:50 left in the first period. Merrit Crumback provided the assist.

Paris' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Woodstock power plays. The Mounties forced Woodstock goalie Jackson Swindells to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

Paris additionally got points from Wheelans, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Paris received assists from Austin Sine, Jacob Norcott, and Brodie Smith, who contributed one each.

The Navy Vets were helped by Dylan Wettlaufer, who finished with one goal. Wettlaufer scored 10:34 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Dan Haig picked up the assist. Braden Hutchison also scored for Woodstock. More assists for Woodstock came via Chris Nauts and Cam Leslie, who each chipped in one.

Davis McLean recorded 22 saves for Paris. The Mounties totaled 35 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major and went 1-for-10 on the power play. Paris ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Norcott was ejected from the game. Jackson Swindells made 36 saves for Woodstock on 39 shots. The Navy Vets ended with 37 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors and one major. For Woodstock, Hutchison was ejected from the game.
