Early goals doom Woodstock, falls to Paris, 8-2

The Woodstock Navy Vets fell behind early, and the Paris Mounties kept piling on the points on the way to an 8-2 victory.

With the win, Paris evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown.

Woodstock was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Mounties were able to score four times while on the power play.

Scott Sippel quarterbacked Paris' offense to perfection and bagged three assists in the Mounties' win over the Navy Vets.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 1:44 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Paris forced Woodstock's netminders to work without much rest, finishing with 32 shots and forcing 24 saves. Michael Roefs made nine stops and Jackson Swindells made 15. The Mounties stifled the Navy Vets' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Paris additionally got points from Clayton Chalmers, who also registered one goal and one assist, Alex Ritchie, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Garrett Kirby, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Paris also had goals scored by Tyler Arsenault, who had two and Austin Sine, Tye Calder, and Merrit Crumback, who each put in one. In addition, Paris received assists from Ryan Stephenson, who had two and Mitchell Harvey, Jacob Norcott, Brady Wheelans, and Brett Wilson, who contributed one each.

Woodstock's offense rang up 47 shots on Paris' net.

The Navy Vets were led by Braden Hutchison, who had two goals. Hutchison scored the first of his two goals short handed at 3:51 into the second period to make the score 5-1 Paris. Woodstock found itself down a man on Ricky Johnston's slashing. Hutchison's next tally short handed made the score 7-2 Paris with 6:52 left in the second period. Michael Nutt assisted on the tally. More assists for Woodstock came via Tyler Lyons, who had one.

Davis McLean rejected 45 shots on goal for the Mounties. Paris ended with 35 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major. For the Mounties, Sine was ejected from the game. The Navy Vets totaled 43 minutes in penalty time with 14 minors and one major and went 0-for-6 on the power play. Woodstock ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jake Schneider was ejected from the game.
