Huge game by Wood boosts New Hamburg over Tavistock, 6-2

The New Hamburg Firebirds' Taylor Wood had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 6-2 win over the Tavistock Braves.

Wood's tallies came on the power play at 14:09 into the second period to make the score 3-1 New Hamburg and 10:23 into the third to make the score 6-2 New Hamburg.

After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, Tavistock faces elimination next time out.

New Hamburg stifled the Braves' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The defensemen of the Firebirds were also effective in Tavistock's zone, and came away with two goals.

New Hamburg also got points from Tyler Randerson, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Kory Nowak, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Matt Bedforth, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Chris Eckert, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for New Hamburg came via Ben Playfair and David Jennings, who each chipped in one.

The Braves were led by Jordan Ritsma, who racked up one goal and one assist. Ritsma scored 13:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Tavistock. Matthew Lupton provided the assist. Tavistock also got a goal from Shaun Pickering as well. In addition, Tavistock received assists from Derek Cowing, who had one.

New Hamburg's Ryan Purcell stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Firebirds incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. New Hamburg ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jennings was ejected from the game. Jason Miller made 20 saves for Tavistock on 26 shots. The Braves incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
