Grimsby beats Simcoe 4-3 after comeback scare

The Grimsby Peach Kings survived a determined comeback attempt by the Simcoe Storm on the way to a 4-3 win.

A goal by Steven Polich put Grimsby up 3-0 in the second period, but Simcoe pulled to within one on Taz Myers's tally 2:47 into the third period.

The win by the Peach Kings clinched the best of seven series at 4-0.

Andrew McMurtrie had a great game for Grimsby, netting two goals. McMurtrie's tallies came at 4:50 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Grimsby and on the power play 8:03 into the third to make the score 4-3 Grimsby.

The Peach Kings' offense rang up 38 shots on the Storm's net.

Grimsby also got a goal from Brennan Smith as well. In addition, Grimsby received assists from Nicholas Purves, who had two and Liam McCrory, Matthew Jambrosich, Curtis Conrad, Nick Carniello, and Curtis Jacques, who each chipped in one.

More assists for Simcoe came via Riley Wilson, who had two and Kent Wardell, Ray Munroe, and Corson Searles, who contributed one each.

Grimsby's Jeremy Currie stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Peach Kings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Nathen McKinnon made 34 saves for Simcoe on 38 shots. The Storm incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Simcoe ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bryce Cadwell was ejected from the game.
