Essex beats Mooretown 2-0 as Lauzon gains shutout

Colin Lauzon was superb between the pipes for the Essex 73s, as he did not allow a goal in a 2-0 victory over the Mooretown Flags.

The win by Essex clinched the best of seven series at 4-0.

The 73s were led by Jordan Ryan, who grabbed one goal. Ryan scored on the power play 7:05 into the third period to make the score 1-0 Essex. Essex had gotten the advantage when Mooretown's Brent Blais was sent off for charging. Daniel Slipchuk picked up the assist.

The 73s excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Essex forced the Flags goalie Brandon Johnson to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Brad Carroll also scored for Essex. In addition, Essex received assists from Daniel McIntyre, who had one.

Mooretown's offense rang up 35 shots on the 73s' net.

Lauzon rejected 35 shots on goal for Essex. The 73s incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Brandon Johnson made 31 saves for the Flags on 32 shots. Mooretown incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
