M1 Mercyhurst University beats M2 Central Michigan University 4-2 after comeback scare

The M1 Mercyhurst University Lakers survived a determined comeback attempt by M2 Central Michigan University on the way to a 4-2 win.

M1 Mercyhurst University made the score 4-1 on a goal by Joseph Tadiello at 19:33 in the second period, and M2 Central Michigan University got as close as 4-2 when David Gibson scored 8:55 into the third period.

The Lakers got the win thanks to a great game by Tadiello, who had two goals and one assist. Tadiello scored the first of his two goals at 8:34 into the first period to make the score 2-0 M1 Mercyhurst University. Jesse Valasek picked up the assist. Tadiello's next tally made the score 4-1 M1 Mercyhurst University with 27 seconds left in the second period. M1 Mercyhurst University had taken the advantage when M2 Central Michigan University's Max Wanko got sent off for slashing. Michal Smid provided the assist.

The Lakers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow M2 Central Michigan University to score on any of its five power plays. With 27 shots on target during the contest, M1 Mercyhurst University exceeded the 1.3 shot it averages per game this year.

M1 Mercyhurst University additionally got points from Valasek, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Greg Marsch, who also racked up one goal and two assists. In addition, M1 Mercyhurst University received assists from Joseph Zinner, who had one.
