Hannon nets hat trick, leads M1 Liberty University to 8-4 win over M1 Stony Brook University

A hat trick by Luke Hannon was the highlight in Flames' 8-4 win against the M1 Stony Brook University Seawolves.

Hannon got on the scoresheet 7:16 into the first period. He then added goals at 6:52 into the second and at 8:51 into the third.

M1 Stony Brook University's 16 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Seawolves let up five goals while on the penalty kill.

The M1 Liberty University Flames' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. M1 Liberty University surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. The Flames' goal total was higher than their season average. M1 Liberty University averages 5.1 goals per game. The Flames struggled on the penalty kill, allowing M1 Stony Brook University to score four power play goals on six chances. The defensemen of M1 Liberty University were also effective in the Seawolves' zone, and came away with two goals. By firing 47 shots on goal, the Flames exceeded the 37.6 shots they average per game this year.

M1 Liberty University additionally got points from Ben Hughes, who also grabbed one goal and three assists. M1 Liberty University also had goals scored by Luke Simon, who had two and Tyson Street and Steven Bellew, who scored one goal each. More assists for M1 Liberty University came via Lindsay LeBlanc, who had five and Kyle Garcia, Cam Bakker, and Bram Erickson, who each chipped in one.

M1 Stony Brook University forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 14 minors and two majors for 88 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game the Seawolves had been spending in the box. With 28 shots on target during the contest, M1 Stony Brook University exceeded the 6.8 shots it averages per game this year. The Seawolves gave up more goals than its normal season average. M1 Stony Brook University averages 2.1 goals allowed per game. The Seawolves' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

M1 Stony Brook University was helped by Chris Joseph, who registered one goal and one assist. Joseph scored on the power play 12:14 into the second period to make the score 4-3 M1 Liberty University. The Seawolves had taken the advantage when M1 Liberty University's Christian Garland got sent off for cross checking. Andrew Balzafiore assisted on the tally. M1 Stony Brook University also got points from Ryan Cotcamp, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Sam Brewster, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Matt Miano also scored for M1 Stony Brook University. In addition, M1 Stony Brook University received assists from Justin Lazalde, Vincent Lopes, and Frank Sherding, who contributed one each.

Cary Byron recorded 24 saves for the Flames. Brendan Jones made 39 saves for M1 Stony Brook University on 47 shots.
