M1 Naval Academy / United States uses shootout to best M1 Rhode Island / University of, 4-3 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the M1 Naval Academy / United States Midshipmen defeated the M1 Rhode Island / University of Rams in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for four attempts between the teams. M1 Naval Academy / United States' other shootout goal was scored by Dustin Oberlander.

Oberlander was all over the ice for the Midshipmen, as he registered two goals in the win. Oberlander scored at 4:08 into the third period to make the score 2-2 and again while 4:35 into the third to make the score 3-2 M1 Naval Academy / United States.

M1 Rhode Island / University of's power play was ineffective against M1 Naval Academy / United States' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Midshipmen's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven M1 Rhode Island / University of power plays. M1 Naval Academy / United States' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Midshipmen finished with 16 penalty minutes. With 46 shots on target during the contest, M1 Naval Academy / United States exceeded the 3.1 shots it averages per game this year.

M1 Naval Academy / United States also got a goal from Thomas Buckley as well. In addition, M1 Naval Academy / United States received assists from Daniel OHear, Trent Lulow, Doug Swezey, and Luke Stanley, who each chipped in one.

The Rams excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. M1 Rhode Island / University of's offense rang up 46 shots on the Midshipmen's net. The Rams gave up more goals than its normal season average. M1 Rhode Island / University of gives up 1.9 goal per game. The Rams got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

M1 Rhode Island / University of was helped by Billy DAmore, who had one goal. DAmore scored 19:49 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Others who scored for M1 Rhode Island / University of included John Ferguson and Nick Zellmer, who scored one goal each.
