Chicago Fury (MM) beats Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM) 5-4 after comeback scare

Chicago Fury (MM) survived a determined comeback attempt by Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM) on the way to a 5-4 win.

A goal by Hayden Smith put Chicago Fury (MM) up 5-1 in the third period, but Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM) pulled to within one on Brady Valiquette's tally 17:40 into the third period.

Chicago Fury (MM) put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM) to score on any of its three power plays. Chicago Fury (MM) forced Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM) goalie Oliver Boerst to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Chicago Fury (MM) bested its season scoring average. Chicago Fury (MM) has scored at the pace of 2.9 goals per game during the current campaign.

Chicago Fury (MM) was helped by Cody Hrabak, who registered one goal. Hrabak scored 3:18 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Chicago Fury (MM). Jon Moskaluk assisted on the tally. Chicago Fury (MM) additionally got points from Smith, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Kyle Siemers, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Matt Goeree, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Charlie Olson, who also had one goal and one assist.

Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM)'s penalty kill unit could not stop Chicago Fury (MM)'s power play, which converted on two of three opportunities.

Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM) also had goals scored by Michael Boyle and Chris Nicolai, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM) were Kyle Cagnoni, who had one and Brandon Tucker, who had two.

Ulysses Lalor recorded 18 saves for Chicago Fury (MM). Chicago Fury (MM) incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Oliver Boerst made 29 saves for Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM) on 34 shots. Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM) incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
