M3-Northwestern rolls over M2 Eastern Illinois University, 10-2

M3-Northwestern had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 10-2 win over M2 Eastern Illinois University.

Simon Choi was all over the ice for M3-Northwestern, as he tallied one goal and five assists in the win. Choi scored on the power play 8:46 into the second period to make the score 4-1 M3-Northwestern. An interference penalty on Andrew Insalaco had put M3-Northwestern on the power play. Rick Gattone assisted on the tally.

M2 Eastern Illinois University's power play was ineffective against M3-Northwestern's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

M3-Northwestern put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow M2 Eastern Illinois University to score on any of its seven power plays. M3-Northwestern found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. M3-Northwestern averages 4.8 goals per game. The defensemen of M3-Northwestern were also effective in M2 Eastern Illinois University's zone, and came away with three goals. M3-Northwestern's offense was clicking better than usual and put 55 shots on goal during the game, better than the 0.8 shots per game it averages.

M3-Northwestern additionally got points from Gattone, who also grabbed two goals and two assists. Others who scored for M3-Northwestern included Matt Johnson, who had three and Daniel Sacks, John Gallagher, Derek Chapman, and Petr Palecek, who scored one goal each. In addition, M3-Northwestern received assists from Garrett Becker, who had three and Michael Gullott and Michael Flynn, who each chipped in one.

M2 Eastern Illinois University put 27 shots on net during the contest, more than the 0.1 it averages per game. M2 Eastern Illinois University was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 26 penalty minutes.

M2 Eastern Illinois University was helped by Steven Kinnison, who tallied one goal. Kinnison scored 12:58 into the second period to make the score 4-2 M3-Northwestern. Thomas Minard picked up the assist. Colin Renville also scored for M2 Eastern Illinois University.
