M1 Robert Morris Univ Pennsylvania uses shootout to best M1 Oakland University, 5-4 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the M1 Robert Morris Univ Pennsylvania Colonials defeated the M1 Oakland University Golden Grizzlies in a shootout 5-4 (3-2 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. M1 Oakland University's shootout goals were scored by Patrick Smiatacz and William Balent. In addition to the clincher, M1 Robert Morris Univ Pennsylvania got shootout goals from James Joyce and Alex Dagnal.

The Colonials overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. M1 Robert Morris Univ Pennsylvania was down 4-2 after a goal by the Golden Grizzlies' Mike Baker at 3:00 in the third period. The Colonials tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Cody Brightbill at 19:12 in the third period.

M1 Robert Morris Univ Pennsylvania stifled M1 Oakland University's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Colonials' offense rang up 42 shots on the Golden Grizzlies' net. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with four goals.

M1 Robert Morris Univ Pennsylvania was helped by Joshua Cleary, who registered one goal. Cleary scored 12:21 into the second period to make the score 2-1 M1 Robert Morris Univ Pennsylvania. Dagnal assisted on the tally. Others who scored for M1 Robert Morris Univ Pennsylvania included Joe Boyer and Luke Chiala, who each put in one. In addition, M1 Robert Morris Univ Pennsylvania received assists from Chris Howland, who had two and Joyce, Wes Heinle, and Justin Rehrer, who contributed one each.

M1 Oakland University's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three M1 Robert Morris Univ Pennsylvania power plays.

M1 Oakland University also got points from Balent, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. M1 Oakland University also got a goal from Ryan Rotondi as well. Other players who recorded assists for M1 Oakland University were Ioan Florea, Kyle Nelson, Tom Kilgore, and William Kocher, who each chipped in one.

The Colonials' Joakim Axen stopped 26 shots out of the 30 that he faced. M1 Robert Morris Univ Pennsylvania incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Corey Hrischuk rejected 37 shots on goal for M1 Oakland University. The Golden Grizzlies incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
