Mitchell nets hat trick, leads M1 Villanova University to 5-2 win over M1 Duquesne University

A hat trick by Myles Mitchell was the highlight in Wildcats' 5-2 win against the M1 Duquesne University Dukes.

Mitchell notched his first tally 10:23 into the second period. He then added goals at 10:24 into the third and at 17:17 into the third.

Team could not crack M1 Duquesne University's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 12 opportunities to play with the man advantage. The M1 Villanova University Wildcats' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in four goals. M1 Villanova University put 33 shots on net during the contest, more than the 0.8 it averages per game.

M1 Villanova University also got points from Doug Geertz, who also had one goal and two assists. M1 Villanova University also got a goal from John J Gyurina as well. In addition, M1 Villanova University received assists from Michael Miniconzi, who had two and John Noble, Jack Skaggs, James Kirchgraber, and Sean Mckernan, who contributed one each.

The Dukes forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and two majors for 56 minutes in penalty time. M1 Duquesne University surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. By firing 31 shots on goal, the Dukes exceeded the 1.3 shot they average per game this year.

M1 Duquesne University was led by Thomas Diffendal, who tallied one goal and one assist. Diffendal scored on the power play 17:41 into the first period to make the score 1-0 M1 Duquesne University. The Dukes had gotten the advantage when the Wildcats' Kirchgraber was sent off for holding. Julian Rizza assisted on the tally. Kyle Brown also scored for M1 Duquesne University. Other players who recorded assists for M1 Duquesne University were Nolan Trombetta, who had one.

Sean Barrett recorded 29 saves for M1 Villanova University. The Wildcats incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. M1 Duquesne University's Dylan Lawrence stopped 28 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Dukes registered two goals on six power play opportunities. M1 Duquesne University ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Brawley was ejected from the game.
