M1 Western Michigan University survives M1 Oakland University comeback, wins 3-2

The M1 Oakland University Golden Grizzlies tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the M1 Western Michigan University Stallions held on for a 3-2 victory.

A goal by Mitch Rogowski put M1 Western Michigan University up 3-1 in the third period, but M1 Oakland University pulled to within one on Frank Saputo's tally 14:31 into the third period.

Mike Moroso had two goals to lead the Stallions to victory. Moroso scored at 8:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 M1 Western Michigan University and again while 14:22 into the first to make the score 2-0 M1 Western Michigan University.

M1 Western Michigan University forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time. The Stallions surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. M1 Western Michigan University put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Golden Grizzlies to score on any of their five power plays. The Stallions put 35 shots on net during the contest, more than the 1.5 they average per game.

More assists for M1 Western Michigan University came via Samuel Rumbles, who had one and Jesse Cameron and Cole Kapovich, who contributed two each.

M1 Oakland University excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Golden Grizzlies were held below their usual level of production. M1 Oakland University puts an average of 4.4 pucks into the net per game. The Golden Grizzlies kept M1 Western Michigan University's goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Haase made 41 saves on 43 shots.

Ryan Rotondi also scored for M1 Oakland University. In addition, M1 Oakland University received assists from Ian Jacobs, who had one and William Balent, who had two.

Corey Hrischuk rejected 32 shots on goal for M1 Oakland University. The Golden Grizzlies incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
