M1 Oakland University blows out M1 Western Michigan University, 8-5

The M1 Oakland University Golden Grizzlies had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-5 win over the M1 Western Michigan University Stallions.

John Baker had a great game for M1 Oakland University, netting two goals. Baker scored at 4:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 M1 Oakland University and again while 15:31 into the second to make the score 5-3 M1 Oakland University.

The Golden Grizzlies kept M1 Western Michigan University's goalie busy throughout the game, and Anthony Benvenuti made 34 saves on 42 shots. M1 Oakland University outdid its season average for goals scored. The Golden Grizzlies have scored at the pace of 4.4 goals per game during the current campaign. M1 Oakland University got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. The Golden Grizzlies struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 16 penalty minutes for five opposing power plays.

M1 Oakland University also got points from William Balent, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Matt Seidel, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. M1 Oakland University also had goals scored by William Kocher, who had two and Ryan Rotondi and Kyle Nelson, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for M1 Oakland University were Matt Stirling, who had two and Ioan Florea, Will Shier, Mike Baker, Michael Mackinnon, Frank Saputo, and Tom Kilgore, who contributed one each.

The Stallions excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. M1 Western Michigan University's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. The 39 shots that the Stallions put on net surpassed M1 Western Michigan University's average of 1.6 shot per game this season. The Stallions could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

M1 Western Michigan University was led by Brandon Grillo, who registered one goal and one assist. Grillo scored 6:30 into the second period to make the score 4-2 M1 Oakland University. Zackery Hummel picked up the assist. M1 Western Michigan University additionally got points from Hummel, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Nicholas Elliott, who also had one goal and one assist, and Cameron Carson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Andrew Holder also scored for M1 Western Michigan University. In addition, M1 Western Michigan University received assists from Cole Kapovich, who had two and Mitch Rogowski and Mike Moroso, who each chipped in one.

Corey Hrischuk made 34 saves for M1 Oakland University on 39 shots. For the Stallions, Holder was ejected from the game.
