M1 West Virginia University vanquishes M1 Duquesne University in shootout, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the M1 West Virginia University Mountaineers defeated the M1 Duquesne University Dukes in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams. M1 Duquesne University's shootout goal was scored by Bernie Lettieri. In addition to the clincher, M1 West Virginia University got a shootout goal from Zachary LaDuke.

By firing 51 shots on goal, the Mountaineers exceeded the 2.9 shots they average per game this year.

M1 West Virginia University was helped by Gerard Clayton, who finished with one goal. Clayton scored short handed 1:45 into the second period to make the score 2-1 M1 West Virginia University. The Mountaineers found themselves down a man on Brandon Richards's boarding. M1 West Virginia University also got points from Trey Bracy, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. M1 West Virginia University also had goals scored by Harrison Colby and Kyle Wainwright, who scored one goal each. In addition, M1 West Virginia University received assists from Tyler Conaway, who had one.

With 23 shots on target during the contest, the Dukes exceeded the 2.6 shots they average per game this year.

M1 Duquesne University was helped by Lettieri, who had one goal. Lettieri scored 13:32 into the third period to make the score 4-4. Jason Bruce picked up the assist. M1 Duquesne University additionally got points from Josh Hetz, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Thomas Diffendal, who also registered one goal and one assist. Brett Reagan also scored for M1 Duquesne University. More assists for M1 Duquesne University came via Julian Rizza, who had one and Zack Richey, who had two.

Ian Donnan recorded 19 saves for M1 West Virginia University. The Mountaineers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Dylan Lawrence made 46 saves for the Dukes on 50 shots. M1 Duquesne University totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play.
